Viewing the vast crystal-clear blue water of Namtso Lake under the pure sky, you may feel your soul has been washed and cleaned. Namtso Lake is located at above 4700m and is the highest altitude saltwater lake in the world. Extending a one-day tour to Namtso Lake from Lhasa could be a challenge to many tourists.

Namtso Lake is famous for its high altitude covering a large area. It is the symbol of  “good luck and happiness” to Tibetan people. The best time to visit it is in summer and during the time, you’ll have the chance to ride a yak or horse to enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of the lake. Due to limited conditions there, it is necessary to bring some water and food for the visit.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Lhasa

Your Tibet tour starts with the Tibetan tour guide greeting you with the white Hada. After check-in the hotel in Lhasa, rest for acclimatization.

Day 2 Explore in Lhasa

Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple are usually recognized as two most important sites in Lhasa. Both of them are listed in the UNESCO world heritage and in our first-day sightseeing in Lhasa, we’ll visit them as well as the bustling Barkhor Street outside Jokhang Temple.

Day 3 Explore in Lhasa

If your travel time is not very tight, your “must-see” sites in Lhasa should include Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery. These two monasteries are located with 10km from Lhasa downtown in the west and north respectively. You’ll have the chance to see Lamas reading the sutras and debating on Buddhism scripture.

Day 4 Lhasa-Namtso Lake (or Damxiong)

Namtso Lake is about 260km from Lhasa. Due to the high altitude, the accommodation there is quite limited and you can stay overnight at Damxiong which is about 70km from Namtso Lake.

Day 5 Namtso or Damxiong-Lhasa

Enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of the sky lake enough and then we’ll drive back to Lhasa. On the way, it is optional for you to pay a visit to Yangbajing Hot Spring.

Day 6 Leave

Today you’ll say good-bye to your Tibetan tour guide and driver at the airport or train station. Your wonderful Tibet holy city and holy lake tour ends.
