Yamdrok Yumtso Lake is among the Great Three Holy Lakes in Tibet and also the largest inland lake at the north of the Himalayan Range.
It is located in Langkazi county about 100km to the southwest of Lhasa. At the elevation of 4441m, it covers 678 sq.km. with 21 small islands in it. The lake is a barrier lake in the shape of coral and no one can have a full view of her face at any place around.
In the beginning of summer season, local herdsman send their livestock to the islands to enjoy the lush grassland until early winter when they get back. Not only an ideal green land, Yamdrok Lake is also a natural fishpond and a habitat for various wild birds and animals.
When passing the Khangbala Pass at 5,030m, the beautiful jade lake is set out before us and remains in the next 50km drive until we reach the Langkazi town.
